What gives? Since the start of this month it has been 70-76°F during the day and the air is so warm that a load of laundry is completely dried before the sun goes down. I’m stocked up on holiday baking supplies, a truckload of firewood is on the way, and yet…and yet it feels as if I should be putting the mosquito screens back into place and planning meals around leafy salads and iced tea. Make me a mojito, it feels like early summer in the chestnut forest.
Only that it isn’t summer, it’s fall, and with fall comes all the really good stuff like…
Truffles – this photo was actually taken last year when we ordered black ones through our favorite supermarket. They’re nothing compared to the white truffles in Piemonte, but they’re easier on the wallet. No time to attend any tartufo fairs this season but there’s a lot of truffle products (butter, cream, oils, etc) on store shelves right now.
and fall sagra events. Last weekend of October and first weekend of November in Pizzighettone, Lombardy are the set dates for Fasulin de l’oc cun le cudeghe. Tender black-eyed peas with pork skin in a thick, hearty soup. We’ve gone a couple times since our first experience in 2006 but I’ve never updated with a post. Things have changed (in a good way) especially for dog owners. A full report tomorrow.
Fasulin de l’oc, raspadura cheese, grilled polenta, cheese and mostarda, lardo and salame.
Yes we have seen that too when there was a unseasonable warm spell in Italy. We were wearing tee shirts because it was so warm and people in woolen coats were looking at US strangely:-) 🙂 Well back to sweaters now for us, now brrrr!. We just came back from the Islands. There is so much natural beauty to see! How wonderful it must have been to be born there! At one point on driving on a rural highway, I imagined that a T-Rex was going to come around the corner like in the movie “Jurassic Park:”-)

Jurassic Park sure did Hawaii right because whenever the topic of the islands come up in a conversation, it’s either JP, Magnum P.I. or Hawaii Five-0 that gets mentioned. XD
On warm weather and coats…I suppose they will never put their trust in the abnormalities of a season. If you’re not dressed as you should be, it’s just not fashionable!

It’s amazing right now in Piemonte, right? I keep wondering what we did to deserve such awesome weather.
I’m missing figs, but loving the persimmon season! Both fruits are sugar bombs. I adore them.

So far we have been really lucky in the north. But…if this lack of rain is followed by little or no snowfall, we be in trouble for lower water reserves. I am preparing for winter!

Daytimes here are still quite warm but mornings and evenings have been quite cool. I just hope we don’t go straight into winter…

Late evenings go down to about 12-17° which is still okay for me (I am totally adapted to cool weather now). My hunch is that temps will drop drastically at the end of the month, so we will enjoy this warmth while it lasts!

Fabulous to have weather like that in Autumn. I remember holidaying in Italy in November twice and we had the same weather , the sun was out , it was brilliant. Love your breakfast too. Yes you have sagra festas to come too.

The funny thing about this warm weather is seeing the majority of italians running around in winter jackets! My husband and I wear light sweaters which sometimes is still too much if we’re out in the sun.
