2013 in review: the good, the bad, and the ugly

The Good: vacation during lavender season in Provence. It was the most memorable trip to France since we like lavande so much, and doing a full day of lavender with the “kids” was a highlight. The westie behaved a perfect petite chienne!

The Bad: the most uncooperative spring weather with unexpected snow in late May. It axed all hope of starting a garden from seed, and for once we weren’t swimming in homegrown plums, zucchini, peppers or tomatoes.

Walk cancelled

The Ugly: not being able to go “home” for a visit. This is probably the biggest lament for all expats of any nationality, but each penny saved brings us a little bit closer to the islands.

And the new year? – more sagre, feste, italian traditions, where-in-Italy weekends, and with any luck, hiking and gardening if next spring is a good one. See you in 2014!

Hau’oli Makahiki Hou! I especially liked your post last January about the ‘Crott’ or crotto, or grotto. We kept our eyes peeled for them this summer when we drove through the lakes all the way to the Valtellina Valley. Italia mi manca:-)

Love the hawaiian greeting! After the holiday dust settles, we’ll have to get out to a crotto before winter is over. I have one in mind – Crotto Valtellina – even if it’s nowhere near Valtellina.
