How much for chimney sweeper services in Italy?

Swiss chimney sweep on wheelsBeing that I’m originally from a place where chimneys are more rare than common, having to enlist the services of a professional chimney sweeper was a big deal in my book. Fond memories of Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dyke singing Chim Chim Cher-ee came to mind, and while I was sure that someone like this fella on the right wouldn’t show up on our doorstep, I have to say that when the spazzacamino did arrive, it kinda deflated the air out of my balloon: two guys, one wearing protective overalls, the other looking like he had just played a good 9 holes on the green, and neither was wearing a tall black hat!

Having a home chimney cleaned/inspected every 1-2 years is probably a universal thing, but we were told that one aspect of cleaning can actually be done yourself. Once a year the flue that connects the stove to the uptake duct in the wall needs to be dismantled, and any sooty build-up must be removed. These guys charged 100€ for 45 minutes of work, yet failed to give a receipt detailing precisely what was done (I am very adamant about keeping records for all home-related work/repairs). It was mentioned that they would send one in the mail but it’s been over a week and I am still waiting…

I have a feeling that they’ll “forget” so I won’t ever recommend them to anyone. It’s just bad to have had them as a recommendation from the company that sold us the wood-burning stove.
