Doggie passport – 13€. Pet passports are mandatory if you’re crossing the border (or flying out of country), so getting one for the doxie was never a priority until we decided to take a road trip to France. The general information contained within is the usual name, address, race, sex, birthdate, microchip data, etc PLUS the current rabies shot info that pets are required to have when traveling outside of Italy. The shots are expensive (we paid 70€ total for Maddie and Mr B) and valid for just one year, so we keep up-to-date only when we must.
In our past experiences, France and Germany never bothered to check Maddie’s passport, but Swiss border control made it their business to check everyone/every pet traveling in the vehicle when we had to cross the country to get to Germany.
